    Spring is in the Air!

    March 26, 2013 /

I don’t think I need to remind you how much I hate winter… but if I do, check this out as a refresher on my whiney feelings about this evil death season. Every year it seems to last longer than the one before it, regardless of what the scientists and ‘experts’ say about climate change all that stuff. Maybe it’s because I’m getting grumpier in my old age, but even the fond memories I had as a wee lass enjoying a good frolic in the snow seems to be replaced by a seasonal scowl. Just because I’m Canadian doesn’t mean I have to like the snow! Oh wait, it does?…

Rome in a Day – A Quick Roman Holiday!

    March 21, 2013 /

I’m never one to advocate speed runs of a destination, particularly if it’s your first time, but sometimes you really don’t have any other choice. Maybe it was a last minute addition or you’re touring around and only have so much time to spend in a given place – whatever the reason, you still want to get a sample of what a locale has to offer. I would never advise rushing through a city as steeped in history and good times as Rome, but you’d also be crazy to skip it altogether! With so much to see and do you might feel overwhelmed trying to squeeze it all into one…

Keep in Touch While Travelling the World

    March 19, 2013 /

Everyone travels for different reasons, be it a quick escape from the everyday or a chance to see something new, but you’re likely at some point in your travels to need to stay in contact with others. It can be family and loved ones back home, new friends you meet in the process or acquaintances you have to meet up with while you’re abroad – it doesn’t really matter who, staying in contact is important and needs to be accessible at a moment’s notice. Thankfully there are more ways to stay in touch for today’s traveller than every before and many of these are very affordable. Whether making free international…

Travelling Solo – What to Watch Out For

    March 15, 2013 /

Some of my best experiences travelling the world have come while I have been alone. There’s a certain calmness that can only be achieved when you only have yourself to rely on and your own thoughts to content yourself with. Can it get lonely? Absolutely, but just in the same way you can want to throttle your travel companion, the key to all of this is moderation. I couldn’t imagine only travelling alone and even when I do set out by myself, I always manage to make new friends – even if it’s only for a short time. With this in mind though, it’s not all sunshine and sparkles when…

    Translating Douchey Travel Cliches

    March 8, 2013 /

Every interest and hobby has its own set of terms and jargon that can be a bit confusing to  those who aren’t privy to the hidden meaning. Then there are those expressions that people use to explain their actions or reasons for travelling that have become stock phrases as lame as sports analogies. Nobody asks for explanation because they either know what you mean or know what you mean •wink wink•. Just in case you have no idea what the difference between the two is, allow me to provide a few examples.   “I’m Studying in Italy This Semester” translation: “I’m Going to Whore Around Europe for a Few Months…
