Once Upon A Star
The dreams
of a child found
in the space of wise ones.
Where the sword and the stone are bound
with the
wonder
of two souls coming together
to awaken entire
kingdoms with just
one kiss.
These words
dropping slowly
as ink becomes paper
fulfilling all dreams wished on that
first star.

Enough
“Enough!”
she yells, flashing
daggers from darkened eyes
finally silencing the mouths
that whisper “You are weak,” into her ear.
Full of fear, yet still fierce, she speaks
“There’s no anger like this
and blood isn’t
enough.”

Gratitude
“You are just like your mother.”
he hissed,
language laced with poison.
Her voice
low and scratchy
answering another
of my late night telephone calls.
The soft and slow trace of her fingertips
on my back; next to me; right now.
In silence I still hear
the kindness in
her voice.
“Thank you,”
and with a smile I turn
and walk away.

finally
facing fear
I’m rendered breathless.

( prompt for day 7 of the 2011 November PAD CHAPBOOK CHALLENGE: “what won’t wait”)
Still
afraid
to accept
the here and now,
life moves on as I wait impatiently.

I’m
worn out,
still waiting
to be inspired.
Crossing my fingers
across these blank pages
I keep wishing for a muse
with some grand poetic entrance.
The time has come to start without her.
I’m worn out, still waiting to be inspired.
Robert Lee Brewer of Poetic Asides is hosting a poem a day challenge through November. The official rules are here.
